We are now offering some training online here. Call the office if you are interested.

Local 493 pays the cost for members to take their Norcat and ZES training. In order to qualify for this, members must contact the Hall prior to taking the training. Norcat and ZES are required to be on any mine job sites.

Basic Courses Description
Asbestos Abatement 16 hour course for workers who may be required to work in a Type 3 enclosure. Ticket is valid for 2 years.
Asbestos Awareness 3 hour course. Workers need awareness at a minimum. Ticket is valid for 3 years.
Chainsaw Awareness 4 hour course. Learn the basics of using and maintaining a chainsaw. Ticket is valid for 2 years.
Confined space 3 hour course. Ticket is valid for 3 years.
Equipment Training Training for Bobcat-skid steer and forklift-on slab and rough terrain. Ticket is valid for 2 years.
*Working at Heights (formerly called Fall Protection) Get your training every 3 years. Current ticket valid until expiry.
First Aid/CPR 2 day course. Ticket is good for 3 years.
Introduction to the Union 3 hour course. New members with less than 1 year in the union must take this course.
Level 1 32 hour course. Learn the basic responsibilities of a health and safety rep.
Pipeline Safety 3 hour course. Ticket valid for 3 years. Available online as well.
Propane 6 hour course. Ticket is good for 3 years.
Rigging 2 day course. Valid for 2 years. Refresher course is 5 hours.
Voice training 1 Day course. Learn the basic fundamentals of organizing non-union companies. Our future work depends on it. It’s everyone’s responsibility to organize and ensure that our union continues to grow. Guest speaker: Gerry Varricchio, Director of Organizing for Eastern and Central Canada.
*WHMIS 1 hour course. Must be done once a year. Also available online.

*NOTE: WHMIS and Working at Heights are a requirement for all members being dispatched on an ICI project (2007 ICI Provincial agreement).
